1923 Underwood 3 Serial # 421014-12 1923 Underwood 3 typewriter, Serial # 421014-12 James Grooms's 1923 Underwood 3 typewriter. 2025-09-30 From the Virtual Typewriter Collection of James Grooms: 1923 Underwood 3 Serial # 421014-12 Call me Mr. Tabulator. This machine had a lot of paper run through it by the wear on the table and the spacebar. It had received a few rounds of touch-up here and there. Despite this, the only thing preventing it from typing was a tab brake that was hanging up. A card/form holder and tall feet accompanied the special order tab mechanism. The feet were replaced with four from a rusted up No. 6/18-inch. The front cover, plated carriage sides, paper fingers, and paper guide came from a No. 5. The carriage sides were black and poorly repainted. The rollers from a frame busted No. 6 dropped right in.
